Gilroy, California

Garlic capital of the world

Gilroy, 30 miles south of San Jose, is still grouped into the South Bay Area despite being quite a distance away from the rest of the tightly grouped cities in the area. Though known for its Garlic Festival at the end of July, Gilroy has a lot to offer in terms of entertainment. To get garlic souvenirs all year round, shop at the The Garlic Shoppe or Garlic World. To refresh your outfit, go shopping at the Gilroy Premium Outlets, featuring top designer brands at a 25-65% discount on average. Enjoy some local wine at one of the many vineyards and wineries: Solis Winery, Hecker Pass Winery, Sarah’s Vineyard, Fortino Winery, or Martin Ranch Winery. For a fun destination for the kids, check out Gilroy Gardens Theme Park, which has rides, a water park, gardens, and the uniquely shaped Circus Trees.

Homes here tend to be sprawling because there is so much more land available to develop. There are large swaths of agricultural land, and new construction sites for residential areas spiraling outward from the downtown area. Prices are very reasonable due to the distance from the rest of the South Bay Area.
